The coaching partnership.
I work with people who are ready to make changes to have the kind of life that is fulfilling for them. They are people who can permit being contributed to, that is, they can receive information and take it in to add to the quality of their life. I work with people who get blocked, stuck, blinded from time to time, yet are committed to moving responsibly. I work with people who are interested in examining their limiting beliefs, taking ownership for their actions, thoughts, beliefs, and designing a way to live that more fully expresses their passion. I work with clients to maintain well-being and balanced lives.
Many want to have “a better life than this,” but this life only lives in our imaginations until we commit to having it. The most crippling excuse for many people is that they believe they are the victims of circumstance, powerless to change their emotions or parts of their lives. Yet, through coaching, even the smallest change can make the biggest difference.
The coaching relationship is a partnership of two equals. My relationship with my clients is based on the solid belief that you are smart, capable, maturing people who want support in clarifying, articulating, and achieving your deepest goals. I am a lifetime coach—one that will be with you at any and all phases of your life. This is my commitment.
My role as the coach.
I will ask provocative questions. I know the inner wisdom of my clients will provide just the answer they need in order to take the next step. I ask introspective questions about beliefs and ways of being open to greater possibilities of your vision.
I give information, education, and direct advice from my own experiences and education in coaching when asked.
I will draw from a wide variety of coaching tools and techniques that I have studied, including NLP processes as appropriate in our coaching relationship.
I provide support and direction by holding your strength, powerfulness, and wholeness for you, even when you get momentarily blinded by fear.
I will hold your agenda and goals foremost.
I will be on time for your calls and if I need to cancel or re-schedule, to do so within the 24-hour policy.
I will be your coach, versus your friend.
I will keep all our conversations private and confidential. If you want to share with others, this is up to you.
Your role as the client.
To come prepared to share a win, progress and to have a focus for the call.
Sometimes if you just need to clear energy/feelings first, claim space to do that. “I just need to clear for 2 minutes before we begin.” This honours the fact that sometimes things back up and you are frustrated. Let's make space and be conscious that we need to drain the swamp before we can move into coaching. You lead the call. It is your life. (There is a form enclosed to assist you in preparing for the call.)
To make complete payments on time.
To tell the whole truth, even if it is unpleasant. If something is not working in the coaching relationship, you have a responsibility to speak it as soon as you are aware of it. This will keep the trust level high and the energy flowing. The same is true for what works for you - share that too.
To do the work. Coaching works when you work. It is your life and your actions that make coaching successful for you.
To keep commitments to yourself and to the coach.
To make no excuses without acknowledging them as excuses.
To take a leap, to stretch, to do something uncomfortable to grow.
To say what you will do for your homework during the week to further the coaching.
Prepare for your coaching sessions.
Keep a record in a notebook so that what you are working with is at your fingertips for review.
Bring your schedule with you each time since we will be using it to plan ahead.
Appointments are usually scheduled a month in advance. These are scheduled so that you can plan your month including these. It is best not to re-schedule them unless there is a genuine emergency. Consistency and commitment are part of the coaching structure. Hold them as sacred self-care time.
Be prepared to take notes at each session so that you have your own record and reference during the week about what you are working with. I want your primary focus to be on the coaching, so extensive note-taking is counterproductive. Writing to reference and record is recommended. You can request that I keep notes for you during a particular session to keep you completely “hands-free.”
Play with the inquiry question when given. Be light with it, yet hold it in your attention since it is intended to deepen and broaden your thinking and learning.
